The 2022 winners are Maritza Navar-Lopez and Leo Staudacher.
The Vann Scholarship goes to Staudacher, who hopes to make a career as a sports journalist. He has been Sports Director at WZND radio, plus host of the weekly RedZone show. He’s also produced and hosted TV-10’s SportsZone show for three semesters, covering all local sports through the pandemic. He’s doing play-by-play for the Northwest Indiana Oilmen baseball team.
Navar-Lopez’s strong leadership skills led to her selection as the Hendershott Love winner. She has been a director at WZND radio, and an anchor/producer at TV-10 for two semesters. She was a student reporter at WGLT radio and a summer intern at WREX-TV in Rockford. She was active in the Association of Latin American Students, and Women in Business. She was selected as Commencement Speaker for the College of Arts & Sciences.
