NORMAL, Ill. – As the holiday season gets closer, a local organization is helping families who may struggle to afford gifts this year. We’re In This Together, also known as the WITT Corporation, is preparing for its annual Christmas gift giveaway this Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at YouthBuild McLean County.
WITT first began as a Facebook group during the pandemic and has since grown into a nonprofit that supports hundreds of families each year.
“There is no cost to anybody. They can come and get gifts for themselves, for their family members, and their household, and they can get Christmas decorations and household items,” said Suzanne Kelley.
The event helps ease financial stress for parents during the holiday season. One story in particular shows how meaningful the giveaway can be.
“We have a mom coming who has seven kids, and without this, there would be no Christmas for four of them,” a representative said. “She is so thankful that she gets to get Christmas for all of her kids and not just the little ones.”
The drive’s success has inspired many community members to volunteer and give back.
“It is really amazing because I have been in a place where we needed help for Christmas,” said volunteer Amy Beirne. “Being able to help other families get gifts for their families is very rewarding.”
Nothing captures the holiday spirit more than supporting those who need it most.
Community members can pre-register on WITT’s Facebook page. From 2 to 5 p.m., WITT will also host an open shop for anyone from the community.
