The Film Society at Illinois State University hosts monthly screenings of movies to bring people together and enjoy the big screen.

Many people watch movies by themselves and play them on smart phones or laptops through streaming platforms, but the Film Society wants to give more options to watch.

Film Society member Jazmine Manzella shares why the Film Society hosts screenings, “It’s just fun to get a whole group of people together and experience a movie all at once. Something we don’t have to like pay for to go see it in the movies, and we get a lot of good range of movies.”

The movie they chose for their first screening was “Almost Perfect” on Tuesday.

Discussions of the movie’s soundtrack and what members enjoyed of the movie happened in their after movie discussion, where they explore different topics of the movies they watch.

Member Kenzie Schmidt explains how the screenings operate, “What we do basically is meet twice a month and watch a movie. And then afterwards we meet as a group and just discuss and talk about it, whether it’s like artistic merits or the story, sound, just any little department we love to chat about.”

They will release their Black History Month selections later this month on Instagram @filmsocietyisu.
