Networking events help students make the first step into entering a new industry.
Bailey McMurray gives advice for students entering their industries for the first time, “Don’t be afraid to be yourself. Show up authentically as you. I think sometimes even in my career as a leader and as a CEO sometimes I’m being on your other people.”
Panelists say networking is not just useful for advice, but also works as a key to opening doors for career opportunities.
Sarah Esparza says the networking events helped her in her own career, “It’s been everything to me. I would not be in the position I am today had it not been without the connections I formed during my time here at ISU.”
Students are not the only ones learning from the networking events.
Esparza shares how the panelists also learn from paneling, “Being able to connect with students that are much younger than me with different experiences and I’ve learned something from them. And I think it’s a great opportunity to be here at an event like this to have that exchange of knowledge and have those connections and those intimate conversations because it helps me learn just a little bit more.”
Networking is more than learning new names, it is also for building new relationships.
Similar events are hosted multiple times a semester for students.
