Illinois State students gathered at the Multicultural Center Tuesday night for shadow puppet storytelling.

Shadow puppet theater is a form of storytelling that originates from different asian cultures. The Asian Pacific American Coalition at ISU wanted to share this ancient tradition with any Redbird, regardless of ethnic background.

Coalition member Carter Bour said, “We want people to know that this is something that isn’t just bound to Asia, but to everybody.”

Many of these stories are said to have been dated back centuries. Aside from storytelling, the event also included crafts and provided an overall sense of community to everybody that attended.

“We’re here for every single student, regardless of what they identify as, their race or their background,” said Maria Perdomo, another member of APAC.

There are many free cultural events that are being hosted by the Multicultural Center throughout the school year.
