Construction workers will be improving Willow Street to make more crosswalks for Illinois State University Students.
This comes after the Town of Normal was awarded with funding from the U-S Department of Transportation.
Student Brianna McCord believes the construction is needed because students have a hard time going to their destination while trying to be careful.
There’s a lot of ongoing traffic between Willow and Normal which causes pedestrians trouble in crossing the street carefully.
Construction is currently happening at the Constitution Trail for the refugee islands to allow pedestrians cross the street and increments rather than full lanes.
The director of engineering for the town of Normal, Ryan Otto, is excited for these changes to come into fruition to help pedestrians be safe when crossing these streets.
The project is expected to be finished by this winter.
