Communication Junction teaches children American Sign Language before they learn how to speak. Babies as young as six-Years old can begin to learn sign language.

Meghan robertson spoke on the mission behind communication junction.

“Communication junction is a company where we teach families how to communicate earlier and effectively with their children birth to 5 years old,” Robertson said. “We have classes that we teach early signs to communicate before they talk and when they are toddler age already talking to clarify what they’re saying.”

the Normal Public Library is home to many classes and the session are based around songs, playtime, and repetition. Parents are encouraged to follow along so that they can continue to teach their children at home.

Lilly and June are advocates on the ASL classes and spoke on how they have benefited from them.

“She has been able to sign before she was able to talk which is really helpful.. So she can sign eat when shes hungry and milk when she wanted milk..I really think its played a huge role in her verbal development as well.”

Communication Junction is designed to give children freedom in how they communicate. They offer baby classes, virtual classes, and story themed classes to give parents the choice for their children.

“Then just for communication in general just to be able to access communication before little ones can speak,” Robertson said. “To clarify their speak and get their needs met and be able to tell their parents what they need and what they want before that frustration hits is all based on communication.”

Communication Junction will host a Christmas party on December 6th at 4:00 at Northminister Presbyterian Church.
