The annual Earth Day breakfast hosted by the Office of Sustainability at Illinois State University aims to make breakfast more sustainable with different food options and reusable dishes.

This year included fresh produce, teas, jams and more having the attendees shopping and smiling.

The Office of Sustainability says they aim to improve the breakfast every year, with this year adding options from the local farmer’s market.

Attendee’s had the opportunity to engage with the local farmers and vendors.

Paige Tenuto shares how the Office of Sustainability wants to make the event more than just a meal, “We just wanted to make the event more lively and more than just the breakfast. So, we thought that having a fresh farmer’s market would be a great addition for people to mingle, shop around, and talk to local producers in Bloomington-Normal.”

Different dietary needs were included in the breakfast with vegan food options and more.

Author and Journalist Kelsey Timmerman was the guest speaker for this year, where he emphasized the connection between the farmer’s market and Earth Day.

Timmerman discussed his book “Regenerating Earth” and spoke about solutions to agricultural and environmental challenges we face.

An Schuller talks about the discussion Timmerman had, “Our speaker today is talking about, where does your food come from? Where does your food grow? Having a relationship with your farmer is important to building that community and understanding how stewardship and environment consciousness is directly impacting you as an eater and as a person who lives here.”

Different Earth Day events are continuing at ISU through the week.
