Mia stated students simply don’t have transportation to go to grocery stores, nor can afford it. Also, different food pantries outside of campus are hard to access.
With Mia seeing many of the students at Heartland facing problems with food, she helped organize a food bank during a time of need. Mia also expressed how she notices many students juggling different problems at once, such as food security, classes, and family lives.
Being able to take the weight of students shoulders is a major reason Mia feels glad about the success of the food pantry.
Anyone can donate through multiple locations on campus. Such locations can be found on Heartland Community College’s Facebook page.
The food pantry will end on November 30th.
