Democrat Joshua Crockett beat incumbent Republican Kathy Michaels in Tuesday’s elections to become the new McLean County Clerk.
Crockett beat out Michaels with 56% of the vote to become the first democrat to hold a county-wide seat in four decades. Crockett says his victory will be the start of more to come in the county.
“Once we’re sworn in, the 1st order of business is writing, the fiscal ship of the office, ensuring that every purchase that comes out of the clerk’s office that requires a county board vote, gets a county board vote,” he said.
Crockett also has expanding clerk on the go and universal polling places on his agenda for his term. His goal is to make sure voters do not have to travel all the way to Bloomington just to cast their vote.
His opponent, Kathy Michaels, was running for her fifth term as county clerk. Her administration was riddled with controversies such as overspending and errors in property taxes. TV-10 News reached out to her, but she made no comment.
Joshua Crockett will be sworn into office on December 1.
