Monday, October 20th Normal Town Council members, along with Normal Fire Chief gathered with students to give these students a chance to meet and ask questions to their local government.
Paige Buschman, Center for Civic Engagement Employee says “This gives them (students) the opportunity to in a really low risk environment come and meet these people so they know who they are and its not just some faceless email. And have a conversation, and hopefully its a starting point for a reltionship with the Town and a starting point for other kinds of civic actions.”
Although it is an event geared toward students, the representatives of Normal express that there is just as much in it for them. Events like these not only help strengthen the bond between students and their local government, but also help the community get more involved.
