Illinois State men’s basketball is just four games into the season, but the Redbirds are already showing encouraging signs. A mix of returning players and new additions has helped the team build early momentum as they navigate a challenging nonconference schedule.

One of their toughest tests so far came against Big Ten opponent Southern California. Head coach Ryan Pedon believes that facing high caliber teams early will pay off later in the season. Pedon said that becoming a strong, competitive team requires both physical toughness and mental toughness, something he emphasizes with his players daily.

Pedon also said the team remains focused on steady progress. He talks often with players about committing to the process and approaching each game with a winning mindset, even as they continue to grow and learn together.

With plenty of basketball still ahead, the Redbirds are looking to build on what they have established so far and continue improving as the season unfolds.
