Illinois State came into the match confident going in with three straight sweeps, and that streak continued. The Redbirds defeated Indiana State in straight sets for their fourth sweep in a row.
Head Coach Allie Matters said her team’s confidence has been key to their success.
“I think from a confidence standpoint everything is clicking for us,” Matters said. “Our offense is clicking, our defense, our passing, and I really can’t ask for much more.”
For senior middle blocker Hannah Reichensperger, the night was full of emotion as she reflected on her four years in a Redbird uniform.
“This is it. This is my last game in Redbird Arena where I’ve spent the last four years with the closest people in my life,” Reichensperger said. “It’s so special seeing everyone come out, but it’s really about celebrating this with my team and everything we’ve done together.”
Senior outside hitter Aida Shadewald also shared what the night meant to her.
“A lot of joy, a lot of happy tears, a lot of tears all day,” Shadewald said. “But nothing but joy and love for this team, this program, and everyone who has given so much for me and that I’ve given everything to.”
With the win, Illinois State continues its strong run through November and now turns its focus to the road. The Redbirds travel to Valparaiso for their next match on Friday at 6 p.m.
