Jane submitted her winning entry, a song titled Fine, just one day before the deadline. Her submission immediately stood out to WGLT staff, who selected her as the inaugural performer for the new live session series, modeled after the popular NPR Tiny Desk Concerts.
Jane, a music therapy major, said she was shocked when she learned she had won. She described being her own toughest critic and said it was surreal to hear her music recognized in such a meaningful way.
During Friday’s live session, Jane performed in front of a small audience of friends and WGLT employees, showcasing her work on keyboard, acoustic guitar and ukulele. She explained that her songwriting often begins with difficult emotions but ultimately aims to deliver a sense of hope.
WGLT plans to host additional Highway 309 live studio sessions throughout the year. More information is available on the station’s website.
