A very important Indian holiday celebration called Holi was held in Normals Uptown circle this past Saturday. Holi is an Hindu festival celebrating spring and good conquest over evil. At the festival, people throw bright colored powder at each other which signifies love and respect.
“Normal Community High School’s South Asian Performing Arts club and their API club are collaborating to put this together. So we have a bunch of colors to celebrate, have fun, and share Holi with people in town” said by Anwita Malladi a NCHS Student.
Normal Community High School has held this event since 2003 and has grown each year. The festival was able to be bigger and more accessible than ever this year because of all the sponsors. Which has been introducing more individuals to the beautiful tradition.
Kirsten and Brayden who are NCHS alumn’s said “it’s a great, high energy event, and I got to throw chalk at like nine people I’ll never see again. It was fun and communal and there was this weird connection between everybody that you just don’t get very often. I love it. I love it too. I feel colorful”.
With an amazing turnout, color and love was exploding in Normals Uptown circle.
