Most students around the country aren’t allowed to use AI. So how are professors using it to enhance the student experience?
Adaptive Edge Institute director, Roy Magnuson, stated they are still learning what is helpful and not helpful in the classroom, and that this information can help faculty reshape or think about how they want to go about things. Some professors have been integrating AI into their classrooms by creating AI study guides and personalizing communication.
David Giovagnoli, another director of the institute, expressed how AI is changing teaching, and it is happening immediately. He also made note that these changes are hard to anticipate, but there are decades of evidence informed studies about how learning, teaching, and the brain work. The crucial aspect that Adaptive Edge Institute is trying to cover is what AI is doing to the existing strategies.
By holding workshops that aim to teach professors how and when to use AI in the classroom, Adaptive Edge is making progress at Illinois State. They are also undergoing 15 different projects in order to merge AI in the classroom.
