Habitat for Humanity of McLean County is teaming up with the City of Bloomington to expand affordable housing.
Construction on two new trailside houses began with the groundbreaking ceremony Wednesday. The projects are expected to be completed in the summer of 2027.
Bloomington mayor Dan Brady said, “But this is key to what’s really, you hear a lot, it’s called affordable housing.”
The construction is part of a goal to expand affordable homeownership as well as support neighborhood development in the city.
“We have been building on this neighborhood over the past 20 years, one by one, this partnership has actually allowed us to accelerate that production,” said Habitat for Humanity executive director Jolene Aldus.
Aldus also celebrated the possibility of finishing construction of the neighborhood much quicker than originally anticipated. The next step in the process is to officially begin building the house.
Mayor Brady said, “This partnership helps lots and now the future of two new homes becomes a reality.”
