Illinois State University hosted a charity drag ball event with professional and student performers. This night was dedicated to support pride, identity, and self expression.
The event highlighted how drag can serve as both entertainment and encouragement for all those around. Drag is more than taking the stage, it is also about inspiring others to embrace who they are. A lot of individuals have said drag is deeply personal for them.
“Well I discovered drag, then I discover my trans identity, so thats my big thank you to drag, like my trans identity helped me discover who I am as a trans-women, so I do it as a big thank-you to the drag community” said by Drag Queen Storm Kouture.
Professional and student performers took the stage in bold looks. Each using costume and makeup to create their own persona. Hera Winn says “Betsy Johnson, it looks cute it looks glamorous and there is a slight edge to it but real good all around”.
Performers say appearing at University pride event can also encourage students still exploring identity. You can do this, you don’t have to sit around in bed, you can be you!
