An Easter Egg hunt was held on Saturday… for dogs?
Local non-profit organization, Jaycees, hosted this event in Normal at Maxwell Dog Park. Jaycees facilitates the growth of leadership skills in their members, ranging anywhere from 18 to 40.
The hunt serves as a fund-raiser where the organization usually raises money for local shelters, but this year, the organization is taking a slightly different approach to where they are putting the money. The money is going to guide dogs for the blind.
The president of Jaycees, Lauren Sheffey gave her thoughts on what this event is all about, “It’s just about having a good time, having the dogs see an easter bunny, and raising some money for a local charity. Absolutely seeing all the little dogs get so excited to go after all the little eggs, also whenever they see the easter bunny, you never know if they are going to be scared of the easter bunny or if they’re going to be really excited to see a huge bunny.”
While many of the dogs there had a blast, there were a handful who weren’t as fond of the experience as their owners may have hoped.
Normal resident, Dan Schlipmann, commented on his nervous dog, “Seemed like something different, we’ve never been here before. We’ve had a dog for about four years, and we thought it’d be fun for him, but as you can see he’s a little nervous.”
According to Sheffey, this year’s weather resulted in a great turnout.
Easter egg hunts are just one of the many things Jaycees does for the community.
The nonprofit also provides disaster relief, support for not-for-profit cancer organizations, and much more.
