This year’s midterm election in McLean County has already broken records in early voting.

Early voting began on September 24 and has already seen all-time highs of 3,653 in-person votes and 4,355 votes by mail-in as of Wednesday morning.

The numbers do not include Bloomington, but they are also seeing high numbers in early polling.

“We start 40 days before election day, and it’s usually really slow,” McLean County Clerk Kathy Michael said, “the first two weeks have been crazy busy in a good way.”

Not only local numbers are high, but high voting amounts have been seen nationwide leading up to election day November 3.

“Going across the United States, it’s about getting out to vote, and I think the word is getting out there, I think that’s one of the reasons why we’re seeing record turnout, but number two is just the local races,” said County Elections Director Mark Senger.

In terms of local elections, county clerk and all ten board chairs are on the ballot for this year’s midterms. Available voting centers are located at the McLean County Government Center as well as the Bone Student Center on the campus of Illinois State University.
